</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.heatherhurzeler.blogspot.com/"><span style="color: #990000; font-size: large;"><strong>www.HeatherHurzeler.blogspot.com</strong></span></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Welcome to my {Heather Hurzeler} new blog home! I've been doing a lot of deep thinking and have decided it's time to really get seriously focused on my true loves. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Art and Photography with a splash of "Sew-Over-It" projects mixed in there too. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have truly enjoyed the Sew-Over-It blog, and have been SO <strong>THANKFUL</strong> for my faithful friends and blogger friendships I've met over the past year! Thank you!! I don't want to loose or upset any of you, this has been a very hard choice for me... but I think if YOU <strong>join</strong> me it will become a <strong>long term</strong> better thing for my business and growth. :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">At the end of this month marks the 1 year anniversary of starting the blog Sew-Over-It, and the sadly the last. I LOVE sewing and creating new things from old, but have decided to really try and keep my focus on the bigger picture (my artwork & photography). If you know me at all, you'll know I have many loves in the art/craft world... and enjoy constantly learning and trying new things. But that can also be a bad thing for me, it takes the focus and time away from where it should be - </div><div style="text-align: center;">My <strong><span style="font-size: large;">artwork</span> </strong>& <strong><span style="font-size: large;">photography</span></strong>! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Don't worry I'll still be doing Sew-Over-It projects and perhaps tutorials ocassionally on the <span style="font-size: large;">new </span>blog, but mostly sewing for my children / home and self! :) I love keeping you guys inspired with DIY project ideas! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I will be keeping my store stocked with mostly Artwork, (large, small and hopefully prints too soon!) and womens accessories & wedding items. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So my new blog is: <a href="http://www.heatherhurzeler.blogspot.com/"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>www.HeatherHurzeler.blogspot.com</strong></span></a> --- PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE FOLLOW ME THERE! I would hate to loose any of my blogger friends in this transition, I'd love to see the numbers grow! :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The new blog & website will combine everything into one easy place for me to grow as an artist / photographer / designer! I hope you will join and support me in this adventure. :) </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Also check out my WEBSITE! -- <a href="http://www.heatherhurzeler.com/"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>www.HeatherHurzeler.com</strong></span></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">If you see something within my website / blog you are interested in please let me know. Currently I am trying to get my name out there and get my art & photography business off the ground. Currently I am working for a deeply discounted price! I believe good art & photography should be affordable for everyone!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Love, </div><div style="text-align: center;">Heather </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">SO <span style="color: magenta;">PLEASE</span> GO to: <a href="http://www.heatherhurzeler.blogspot.com/"><span style="background-color: white; color: blue;">www.HeatherHurzeler.blogspot.com</span></a> - and become a <strong>follower</strong>, it would make my day! :) If your feeling extra sweet you could leave me a comment too! ;)</div>Sew-Over-Ithttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00716119729797382567noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27183796047188144.post-91318054399540903892011-04-01T10:50:00.000-07:002011-04-01T10:50:22.381-07:00Pretty in Grey - Dresser Makeovers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: large;">Thrifty Dresser Makeovers</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">My 2 daughters share a room and were always lacking for dresser space. It is a sensory overload for the eyes, nose and probably wallet. ;) I purchased some artwork from a local vendor, yummy chocolate cherries, and lusted after the many gorgeous flowers.<br />
<br />
Seattle had sunshine all 3 days we were there, crazy beautiful and a very unexpected treat! I was hoping for a little rain though, but we got some of that and snow on our 3,700 mile round trip drive! ;) Arizona to Seattle, and back again... plus lots of site seeing, wow!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">In the past the word "<strong>Desert</strong>" and "<strong>Beautiful</strong>" would not be two words I would place together in the same sentence. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Growing up in Arizona, I've gotten my fill of dry desert waste lands... endured the tumbleweeds, allergies and extra dusting in housework that comes from living in the desert.<span style="font-size: x-small;"> </span><span style="font-size: xx-small;">(haha... not that I actually do a ton of dusting, just keeping it real)</span><span style="font-size: small;">. Unless the wildflowers are in bloom, I found the desert pretty much a UN-inspiring place that is filled with rattlesnakes and scorpions... two of my least favorite things in the world. I'm a BIG coward when it comes to scorpions, just gives me the shivers just typing that word. blaa! </span><span style="font-size: xx-small;">anyways, sidetrack! ;)</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">However, something has finally sparked inside me to really find the beauty in my surroundings. Right now we are living here and I should make the best of it and showcase the beauty of something I once detested. I think that is pretty much my <strong>"Sew-Over-It"</strong> way of thinking, take something old and boring to you and make it new, beautiful & exciting! :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I've been enjoying learning more and enjoying the art of <a href="http://www.hurzelercreations.com/pages/photography.html"><span style="color: blue;"><strong>photography</strong></span></a>... and strangely enough I have found one of my favorite locations to shoot so far has been the desert. Here are a few of my favorite desert photos thus far. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I turned this $3 gold/brassy grandma's mirror to funky fabulous in 15 minutes. Add some dark glaze to<br />
pop the details and it's ready to go! I used the left over paint from the {<a href="http://sew-over-it.blogspot.com/2011/03/green-bean.html">Green Bean</a>} chair makeover in the previous post. <br />
<br />
Next I grabbed a can of outdoor Bronze paint and gave our old sad (Orange) fading flower pots a fresh coat of paint, way cheaper than buying new pots. And of course I planted some new spring flowers! <br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I learned how to sew my own piping and cut on the bias for this project, it was full of firsts for me! I realized how much I LOVE Google, it's my bff on the internet. You can seriously learn how to DO anything in a flash... what did people do before internet and all you other awesome DIY blogs that I rely on??? ;) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I added thick black piping on the top and bottom of the bumper with extra big bows to add to the drama. I <strong>refashioned</strong> the bumper with a brand new one I found on super sale at Target for $13, it was a horrid fabric... but I needed a pattern and bumper pads, it was perfect and more thrifty than buying it seperate from Joanns! The pads alone there were $25+ dollars. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is my second "Bella" quilt and I love the way the black piping just finishes it perfectly! See the first set <a href="http://sew-over-it.blogspot.com/2010/06/crib-bedding-set-bella-beautiful.html">HERE</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">With the crib skirt I got thrifty and found a brand new white full size bedskirt that I had never even opened the package (my son isn't one to appreciate a "skirt" on his bed... haha). So I "Sew-Over-It" and <strong>refashioned</strong> it into a crib size skirt and added the black and teal trim. Great for purses, bags, pillowcases, duvets... etc. There are so many great ways to incorporate <span style="font-size: large;">texture</span>!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTR0v1rQhJ5-sIyAJbIhS5sir9nxl1Q_bGsGgb7yZAwMO_ZfDAvaSWZ6w7b_M09n2C53Jwinr2E4HWe6YxdRrAXne6OUaZRf2jBchHL8TD8SMTUZJTpP79NpLFQmFGPXj0mK3LhFMTew/s1600/red-texture1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTR0v1rQhJ5-sIyAJbIhS5sir9nxl1Q_bGsGgb7yZAwMO_ZfDAvaSWZ6w7b_M09n2C53Jwinr2E4HWe6YxdRrAXne6OUaZRf2jBchHL8TD8SMTUZJTpP79NpLFQmFGPXj0mK3LhFMTew/s400/red-texture1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">For this <span style="font-size: large;">tutorial</span> I chose a thick grey denim fabric, you can use most fabrics.. my recommendation is something with a <strong>heavier</strong> weight, this will help retain the texture shape. However you can use a fusible interfacing/backing after texture is complete, just be careful not to smash down folds/texture to interfacing while ironing. I used a interfacing on the red clutch above because it was a very lightweight fabric. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To begin, cut a piece of fabric <strong>LARGER</strong> than what you need for your project by a couple inches each direction. The texture shrinks the fabric size! You can remeasure & cut the dimentions you need once you have created your texture.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Start by graphing out the <strong>BACK</strong> of your fabric, the lines depend upon how much/less texture you want your project to have. I chose <span style="font-size: large;">1.5 x 2 inch squares</span> for my purse. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuuQ2qjzHNeaOeKwj7M9Q-AkAZgX0kKqk3D9A0ePxNFz9k1TKHCbxhrwrLWioFdo2Bb78kz6utBA4Fsf-102Y_pbTf9uuAP36cX7mXCZzKQM8YC8sW_kySyNiyU9Qvardik4w_9C4Ecw/s1600/texture-tutorial2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" n4="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuuQ2qjzHNeaOeKwj7M9Q-AkAZgX0kKqk3D9A0ePxNFz9k1TKHCbxhrwrLWioFdo2Bb78kz6utBA4Fsf-102Y_pbTf9uuAP36cX7mXCZzKQM8YC8sW_kySyNiyU9Qvardik4w_9C4Ecw/s640/texture-tutorial2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next mark DOTS where you will be pinching the fabric to create texture. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I recommend alternately stacking your dots, not placing a dot directly on top of the other.... this is just a preference however. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then <span style="font-size: large;">sew</span> along the edge of your fold, the further back your seam the deeper texture folds you will have. <br />
Notice there are no seams showing from the front! You can carefully iron your texture to create sharper edges for a more polished look. Now you are ready to use the fabric to create your own project. :) <br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I finally got around to updating my website and changing the name to Heather Hurzeler!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It's a great way for me to keep all my "Creations" together, eventually I'll move to a single Blog that includes everything at HeatherHurzeler.Com.... but not yet.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Its getting way to confusing for me to keep 3 different branches going at once, on different sites: : my artwork at Hurzeler Creations, Baby Products at LuvARoo, and sewing projects at Sew-Over-It. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I simplified..... to<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><a href="http://www.heatherhurzeler.com/"><strong><span style="font-size: large;">www.HeatherHurzeler.com</span></strong></a> -- also called HurzelerCreations.com</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Seriously, I was beginning to feel like a pyscho, not to mention daily forgetting my zillon passwords. Haha. So this should give me more time <strong>crafting</strong> and less time searching for passwords, uploading. and general hair pulling craziness! ;)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Remember how this wall looked before? <a href="http://sew-over-it.blogspot.com/2010/09/my-studio.html">SEE</a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Don't worry I am still have all my wine crates for storage, they are being well loved and used. ;) I came across a garage sale from the sweetest older woman who quilts for a hobby. She was selling this hutch that she owned for several years but it never made its way out of her garage. </div><br />

I was in LOVE! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

I cleaned it up, and spray painted the handles a dark metallic bronze, they were a brassy gold before... much better now. She told me the electric lift didn't work, but to my surpise I plugged it in at home and UP came my sewing machine from the bottom storage rack. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Yes, I admit I have <strike>childishly</strike> joyfully played with the lever.... up... down.... up... down... happy dance!! lol... <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifvR0CmD6aTIz1ng6TaFVy4MFmxXXV-jAwv9bqddICWgkCGu6GZyGmVwyip6kRuU6tQb04gw7r4dvf-VYMbizlFtUYZRccRjOkJn5nnZzdzzn3d9cJOQMMZp7T8w_Snb1TkKatV1UQog/s1600/sewing-cabinet3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="556" ox="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifvR0CmD6aTIz1ng6TaFVy4MFmxXXV-jAwv9bqddICWgkCGu6GZyGmVwyip6kRuU6tQb04gw7r4dvf-VYMbizlFtUYZRccRjOkJn5nnZzdzzn3d9cJOQMMZp7T8w_Snb1TkKatV1UQog/s640/sewing-cabinet3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I researched it online and found nothing else like it except for one, a long lost twin seperated at birth perhaps. ;) A super sweet crafty fellow blogger from <a href="http://quixoticcrafter.blogspot.com/2009/05/quilting-studiocoming-along.html">Quixotic Crafter</a>, she shared some info about with me her sewing cabinet hutch as well. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well next I met a neighbor of mine that was having a garage sale, but decided it was to cold... so they would just give the items left away for free! Arizona doesn't really get that cold, but it has been chilly this week. But heck, my gain! He was dragging this cool looking stainless steel workbench table to the curb as I pulled up.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT80vUvvNYqc6uoisKY6wZFW5k-irVdnBYVyePmHl6lK9sZ9PUnq3GMBFY9lNT_16yQL29Ms9HnGXeoPosmeeFpqVy3AEVOe25pN9-ckSpsREhpe3phbviRrhX0l3HkSx0plZOUh2ikw/s1600/cobblers-worktable1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" ox="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT80vUvvNYqc6uoisKY6wZFW5k-irVdnBYVyePmHl6lK9sZ9PUnq3GMBFY9lNT_16yQL29Ms9HnGXeoPosmeeFpqVy3AEVOe25pN9-ckSpsREhpe3phbviRrhX0l3HkSx0plZOUh2ikw/s400/cobblers-worktable1.jpg" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He told me he & his father were shoe cobblers years ago... and this was the last piece left from their shop. It needed some love, but with the stainless steel top, leather straps and height it made for the perfect art worktable for my studio! I'm not a fan of an easel, I'd usually rather lean my canvas against the wall from the table top to paint (see the fabric covered cork board to protect my wall from paint). And spread my paints & brushes all over the table. I cleaned this cobblers table up and painted it a pretty aqua for my studio... I left the leather straps, they are perfect for large brushes!</div><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It was a great week, I have much to be thankful for... including how God always provides even down to the smallest details! :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Now, time to get painting & sewing...
